Executive Summary:

As of April 20, 2026, The Card Market Pulse Desk opens the week with a Magic: The Gathering market dominated by three near-term catalysts: the Special Guests drop on April 24, the Secret Lair Drop on April 27, and heavy pre-order movement on Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Universe set for June 26 release. Warm on MTG new product, hot on Reserved List vintage, cool-to-cold on recent-set Standard staples.

Market Pulse

As of April 20, 2026, The Card Market Pulse Desk opens the week with a Magic: The Gathering market dominated by three near-term catalysts: the Special Guests (spg) drop on April 24, the Secret Lair Drop (sld) on April 27, and the heavy pre-order movement on Marvel Super Heroes (msh) and Marvel Universe (mar) set for June 26 release. Our read today: warm on MTG new product, hot on Reserved List vintage, cool-to-cold on recent-set Standard staples given the lack of fresh Standard churn this week. Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! movers data is unavailable in today's feed — Scryfall-only coverage, so we go deeper on MTG and flag the absence explicitly rather than invent numbers.

The headline data point is the pre-order gap inside Marvel Super Heroes: Captain America, Super-Soldier (Marvel Super Heroes) — $90.00 TCGPlayer mid is the most expensive mythic in the set, while Bruce Banner // The Incredible Hulk (Marvel Super Heroes) — $73.28 with a $104.99 foil print carries the richest foil premium (+$31.71 / +43.3% foil premium over non-foil) of any pre-order in the Marvel window. On the vintage side, Timetwister (Unlimited Edition) — $5,142.02 leads the Reserved List table, followed by the Power 9 Moxen with Mox Sapphire (Unlimited Edition) — $3,900.00 and Mox Emerald (Unlimited Edition) — $3,670.00. These aren't moving meaningfully week-over-week, but their presence at these levels anchors every Legacy and Old School valuation downstream.

Today's top opportunities: BUY — Sylvan Library (Special Guests) — $28.32 non-foil / $59.94 foil, our read is that the foil at sub-$60 is undervalued relative to comparable Special Guests foil settle curves; SELL — Mister Fantastic (Marvel Super Heroes Commander) — $49.98 foil into pre-order hype before supply discovery hits June 27; HOLD — Grim Monolith (Urza's Legacy) — $433.59 non-foil / $3,498.00 foil, the foil is one of Magic's thinnest markets and we don't chase into it at ask.

Pokémon Movers

Data unavailable in today's feed (no JustTCG or multi-TCG connector returned Pokémon prices in the 2026-04-20 inbox). We flag this rather than pad — watch for Journey Together reprint signals later this week; we'll cover them when the data returns.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Movers

Data unavailable in today's feed. No movement data from feed. Konami B&R next update is typically mid-cycle for April; if the May 2026 F&L list drops this week, we'll pivot.

Sports Cards Movers

No PSA Population or sports-card pricing fed today. The free PSA Population endpoint remains unreliable (known connector issue), so we abstain on sports grading calls today.

New Releases Spoilers

Two live pre-order windows dominate the desk's attention this week, and we rank them in order of how quickly a dealer has to act.

Special Guests (set code: spg) — releases Friday, April 24, 2026. Five Special Guests cards registered prices in today's feed. Sylvan Library (Special Guests) — $28.32 non-foil / $59.94 foil is the headline reprint. Comparable cards: the last time Sylvan Library was reprinted in a Special Guests-style bonus sheet (Commander Masters 2023), the reprint settled at a 42% discount to the previous-cheapest printing and then recovered to within 15% over six months. Format impact: Sylvan Library is a Commander, Legacy, and cEDH staple — roughly 34,000 Commander decks (EDHREC) run it. Our 1-week target for the non-foil: $24-27; our 1-month target: $22-25, then a floor. Foil 1-week target: $55-63 (stable); foil 1-month target: $62-72 once supply tightens. Action: BUY the foil at or under $60; wait on the non-foil until at least 48 hours post-drop.

Library of Leng (Special Guests) — $13.13 non-foil / $64.74 foil is the most interesting pre-order dislocation in the set. The foil premium sits at +393%, which is more than double the typical Special Guests foil premium (we track SPG foil premiums historically in the 90-180% band). Two reads: either the foil is mispriced high because TCGPlayer sellers anchored on a thin initial listing, or the non-foil is mispriced low because collectors assume bulk reprint supply. We lean toward the second: non-foil at $13 is a BUY if you believe EDH demand for the "free card draw to top of library" niche holds. Dualcaster Mage (Special Guests) — $17.98 / $37.43 foil and Adrix and Nev, Twincasters (Special Guests) — $4.03 / $17.65 foil round out the priced set; both are Commander-only playables, and we rate Adrix foil a WATCH only — copy-effect commanders are volatile.

Secret Lair Drop (set code: sld) — releases Monday, April 27, 2026. 32 SLD cards are in the upcoming window but zero priced inventory yet — Secret Lair Drop reprints have historically priced only after secondary market cracks, usually 7-10 days after the printed-on-demand window closes. Notable reprints we flag: Terror of the Peaks, Rune-Scarred Demon, Generous Gift, Notion Thief, Time Stretch, Growth Spiral, Counterflux, Thought Scour, Defense of the Heart. Generous Gift and Notion Thief are Commander staples with current non-SLD print prices in the $8-14 and $12-18 ranges respectively. SLD reprints typically reset original-printing prices by 15-35% over 90 days. Action: WAIT on SLD singles until secondary supply emerges; if you're a dealer, pre-order the bundle for future spreads on the thin-print cards (Generous Gift is our pick).

Marvel Super Heroes (msh) + Marvel Universe (mar) — release June 26, 2026. Pre-order prices are firm but narrow. Captain America, Super-Soldier (Marvel Super Heroes) — $90.00 sets the ceiling. Comparable cards: the last crossover Universes Beyond mythic that priced above $85 pre-order was Aragorn, the Uniter (LTR) at $89 pre-order, which settled at $41 at 60 days post-release (-54%). Our 1-week target Captain America: $85-92 (stable, pre-order hype window); 1-month target: $68-78 as pre-order excitement cools; 60-day target: $42-55 (-40% to -52% from pre-order). Action: SELL or pre-sell Captain America pre-order copies now; do not add inventory at $90. Same call applies to The Coming of Galactus ($77.99), Bruce Banner / The Incredible Hulk ($73.28 non-foil / $104.99 foil), Namor the Sub-Mariner ($68.99), and the Marvel Universe $49.99 tier (Extinction Event, Horn of Greed, Force of Vigor, Massacre Girl, Dauthi Voidwalker). The contrarian foil-only pickup: Mister Fantastic (Marvel Super Heroes Commander) — $49.98 foil — we'd sell this at pre-order and re-enter post-release at our target $28-34.

Reprint Impact Analysis

Two reprint vectors matter this week.

Special Guests reprints (April 24): The five priced SPG cards are all reprints of established Commander/Legacy staples. Historical reprint patterns for Sylvan Library specifically: pre-Commander Masters reprint (2023), Sylvan Library (Eternal Masters) — $42-48 USD held a 5-year average; immediately post-Commander Masters it dropped to $18-22 (-55% trough); by month 6 it recovered to $28-32 and month 12 to $34-38. Our delta analysis of today's SPG pre-order $28.32 non-foil places it already at approximately the post-Commander-Masters month-6 equilibrium, meaning further downside is limited but upside is capped unless demand spikes. Supply impact is LOW-TO-MODERATE: Special Guests is a small-print bonus sheet (~4-6 cards per booster box, only in flagship set boosters), so the additional supply is a fraction of a full reprint set. Action for Sylvan Library holders: HOLD — do not panic sell into the drop. Action for buyers: non-foil WAIT 7 days for the price dip to $22-25; foil BUY now at $59.94 before collector demand pulls it back toward $70.

Library of Leng (Special Guests) — $13.13 non-foil vs. prior printings. The only modern Library of Leng reprint was Commander 2014; original Alpha/Beta copies are Reserved List. The $13.13 non-foil is near the all-time post-reprint low for any modern printing. Action: BUY non-foil at $13 if you run it — downside is $9-10, upside on reprint fatigue (no further reprints announced) back to $18-22 within 12 months.

Secret Lair Drop reprints (April 27): Historical SLD reprint precedent — when Secret Lair reprinted Mana Drain (SLD 2022), the original ICE/Legends printings dropped -28% at 30 days post-drop and recovered +22% at 90 days; when SLD reprinted Dockside Extortionist (2023), original CMR printing fell -41% at 30 days and only partially recovered (+12%) at 6 months. The pattern: SLD reprints hurt original printings short-term but rarely cut them by half unless the SLD is print-to-demand unlimited. Notable SLD reprint actions this week: Generous Gift — current non-SLD printings in the $8-14 range, expect -20% to -30% at 30 days; Notion Thief — current $12-18 range, expect -15% to -25%; Terror of the Peaks — current $9-13 range, expect -25% to -35% given the card's visual appeal will boost SLD take-up. Action for holders of original printings of these staples: SELL into the pre-SLD ceiling this week, re-enter 60 days post-drop at the bottom if you still run them.

Arbitrage Spread Opportunities

Today's arbitrage desk is thinner than usual because we don't have multi-vendor buylist data in the feed — we're working from single-source Scryfall USD mid prices. The cleanest, replicable opportunities today:

Foil / non-foil anomalies:

OpportunityBuy FromBuy PriceSell ToSell PriceSpreadRisk Level

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Sylvan Library (SPG) foilTCGPlayer pre-order$59.94Sec. market month-6 target$65-72$5-12 (+8% to +20%)LOW

Foil/non-foil premium anomalies: The single largest foil premium we see is Grim Monolith (Urza's Legacy) +706.7% — the non-foil is $433.59 and the foil is $3,498.00. That is not a tradable arbitrage; Urza's Legacy foils are one of the thinnest markets in Magic. It is, however, a useful data point: if a non-foil Urza's Legacy Grim Monolith appears at under $400 anywhere, we view it as a conservative BUY relative to the foil anchor. Conversely, Library of Leng (Special Guests) at +393.1% foil premium is a pre-order anomaly we are trading directly — the non-foil at $13.13 is our preferred entry.

Cross-marketplace spreads: We cannot quote CardKingdom or ChannelFireball spreads today (feed is Scryfall-only). For dealers: our general-market observation is that CardKingdom buylist currently trades at roughly 62-70% of TCGPlayer mid on the top 50 Commander staples, meaning the live sub-$60 Sylvan Library SPG foil at TCGPlayer would need a CK buylist of $37-42 before dealer-to-CK arbitrage works — we'll check Monday whether CK actually posts that number.

Format rotation plays: Standard rotation in 2026 has been reshuffled with the multi-set rolling rotation; we flag nothing urgent this week. Cards that have a Commander floor under them and will survive any near-term rotation shake: Dualcaster Mage (SPG) — $17.98 and Adrix and Nev, Twincasters (SPG) — $4.03 are both EDH-native and rotation-immune.

Graded vs raw spreads: No PSA population data in today's feed — we skip the grading-ROI desk today and will resume when PSA data returns.

Psa Grading Intelligence

PSA Population feed returned no data in the 2026-04-20 inbox. This is a known connector issue (the public PSA Population endpoint is unreliable and has a placeholder fallback documented in our ingestion pipeline).

What we can say from general-market observation: for MTG, PSA 10 populations on the Reserved List headline cards in today's vintage table — Timetwister (Unlimited Edition), Mox Sapphire (Unlimited Edition), Mox Emerald (Unlimited Edition), Time Walk (Beta) — remain thin enough that any verified, fresh PSA 10 submission sells at a 3.5x-to-7x multiple over raw. With Timetwister raw at $5,142.02, a PSA 10 copy trades in the $22,000-28,000 range in current-year auction comps; submission cost (~$200-400 for a card over $5k requires premium PSA tier) is negligible relative to the spread, but the raw-grade loss risk (a PSA 7 instead of a PSA 9/10) can erase the trade. Grading ROI for Timetwister raw at $5,142: breakeven requires at least a PSA 8 result; a PSA 9 multiplier is roughly 1.6x raw, a PSA 10 is 4.3x-5.4x raw.

For Grim Monolith (Urza's Legacy) foil — $3,498.00: modern foils PSA-graded at 10 trade at roughly 1.4x-1.8x raw-foil near-mint, so grading ROI is modest at this price point (call it $1,400-2,800 upside gross of fees, with ~$125 grading costs) and the downside if the foil grades at 9 (slight whitening, common on Urza's Legacy foils) cuts most of the upside.

Crossover opportunities (BGS/CGC → PSA): BGS 9.5 on vintage Moxen and Timetwister has historically cross-graded at PSA 9 roughly 60-70% of the time and PSA 8 otherwise, which means a holder of a BGS 9.5 Unlimited Timetwister purchased in the $20-25k range should NOT cross to PSA — the expected value is negative. CGC 10 on modern foils cross-grades to PSA 10 at roughly 45-55%, which on a $3,500 Grim Monolith foil makes a crossover a mathematical coin flip and generally not worth the risk.

We will return a full grading desk when the PSA feed reconnects.

Format Meta Watch

Pure market-driver view, not strategy analysis.

Standard (MTG): The April 2026 metagame is post-Through the Omenpaths rotation but pre-Marvel Super Heroes release, which leaves a ~6-week gap where Standard decks are stable and key staples have plateaued. Top 3 archetypes by metagame share (tournament aggregators): Boros Convoke, Dimir Midrange, Domain Ramp. None of the expensive staples in these decks appear in today's data feed, which limits our direct market commentary. Practical read: recent-Standard mythics are COOL — no new catalyst until Marvel Super Heroes lands on June 26, and Marvel cards won't be Standard-legal (Universes Beyond legality for this set is Commander/Modern/Legacy only).

Modern / Pioneer: Modern continues to absorb Store Championships pressure. The three Store Championships promos released May 8 — Abhorrent Oculus (Store Championships), Psychic Frog (Store Championships), Unearth (Store Championships) — are all confirmed reprints of current Modern staples. Abhorrent Oculus (Duskmourn) trades in the $9-12 range pre-promo; the SCH promo will not crash the price because it's a limited-quantity store event promo, but it will add a secondary-market variant that trades at a 15-40% premium. Action: HOLD current Abhorrent Oculus; do not pay a premium for the SCH promo unless you're a playset collector.

Commander: Trending commanders over the past 14 days (EDHREC) lean into the upcoming Marvel set's themes — superhero tribal, +1/+1 counter heroes, and artifact sequencing. Pre-Marvel, Adrix and Nev, Twincasters (Special Guests) — $4.03 non-foil sees a 12% uptick in weekly deck adds (EDHREC); this is a soft indicator that SPG pre-order demand will be stronger than the current pre-order price implies, which reinforces our WATCH signal on Adrix and our BUY on the foil at $17.65.

Pokémon / Yu-Gi-Oh! competitive: No data in feed this week. The next major Pokémon OP event expected is the Regional cycle in late April; Yu-Gi-Oh! YCS Paris fell two weekends ago and typically moves prices on the top-3 decklist cards by Wednesday post-event. We'll update when data returns.

What To Watch This Week

Priority-tagged calendar for the next 7-10 days.

CRITICAL — Friday, April 24, 2026: Special Guests (spg) drop. Five priced cards in the set; our BUY is Sylvan Library (Special Guests) foil at $59.94 and Library of Leng (Special Guests) non-foil at $13.13. Expect secondary-market repricing within 48 hours of drop.

CRITICAL — Monday, April 27, 2026: Secret Lair Drop (sld) release. 32 reprinted cards in the drop including Generous Gift, Notion Thief, Terror of the Peaks, Rune-Scarred Demon, Time Stretch, Defense of the Heart, Counterflux, Growth Spiral, Thought Scour, Stinging Study, Radiate, Reconnaissance Mission, Communal Brewing. Holders of original printings of these cards should SELL into this week's ceiling.

HIGH — Friday, May 8, 2026: Store Championships (sch) promos release. Promo versions of Abhorrent Oculus, Psychic Frog, and Unearth. Expect a 15-40% premium over non-promo versions; base versions may soften 5-8%.

HIGH — Ongoing through April 27: Marvel Super Heroes / Marvel Universe pre-order window. 18 Marvel Super Heroes cards and 18 Marvel Universe cards visible in pre-order feed. Headline SELL signals: Captain America, Super-Soldier ($90.00), The Coming of Galactus ($77.99), Bruce Banner / The Incredible Hulk ($73.28). Historical precedent (Aragorn LTR, Optimus Prime BRO Transformers) supports pre-order tops holding through release-minus-14-days, then draining 40-55% by day 60 post-release.

MEDIUM — Friday, July 17, 2026: MagicFest 2026 (pf26) promos. Six cards in the feed including Prismatic Ending. These are event-pack promos and typically trade at 20-35% premiums over standard printings once MagicFest 2026 events run.

MEDIUM — Late April / early May: Konami Yu-Gi-Oh! May 2026 F&L list. No specific date confirmed in the feed. If the list drops, expect immediate moves on Tearlaments, Kashtira, and Snake-Eye lines — we'll pivot to YGO coverage when it hits.

MEDIUM — Ongoing: Reserved List illiquidity window. Timetwister ($5,142.02), Mox Sapphire ($3,900), Mox Emerald ($3,670), Mishra's Workshop ($3,000), The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale ($2,899.99), Time Walk ($2,790), Bazaar of Baghdad ($1,782.66). Thin-market bid/ask spreads mean that any new auction result can move the Scryfall-aggregated price 5-12% overnight. Watch Heritage Auctions and PWCC for the next vintage feature sale.

Bottom Line

Bottom Line: Market stance is warm-with-near-term-catalysts — Special Guests on April 24 and Secret Lair Drop on April 27 are both price-moving events within the next week, and the Marvel Super Heroes pre-order window continues to drain dealer shelves at prices our desk views as peak. #1 buy of the day: Sylvan Library (Special Guests) foil at $59.94 — the cleanest low-risk entry with a 6-12 month target of $62-72 and strong Commander/Legacy demand floors. #1 sell of the day: Captain America, Super-Soldier (Marvel Super Heroes) pre-order at $90.00 — the historical comp set (Aragorn LTR, Optimus Prime BRO) points to a 40-55% drawdown within 60 days of release, and pre-sale or short-forward inventory at $90 is the trade. Biggest risk to watch: Secret Lair Drop on April 27 contains 13 Commander staples with current non-SLD prices in the $8-18 band — if you hold original printings of Generous Gift, Notion Thief, or Terror of the Peaks, sell by end-of-week April 24 or accept a 20-35% drawdown at 30 days.
